We are happy to announce that Alissa Carter has joined our firm as an associate attorney. Partners Christine and Doris continue to be actively involved in the practice but recognize the need to bring in the next generation to serve our franchise clients well into the future. In this case, Alissa literally is the next generation since she is the daughter of partner Doris Carter.
Alissa became licensed on May 5, 2016 after graduating from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law in December 2015. She will practice franchise law alongside Christine and Doris. She also hopes to develop practice areas in intellectual property, music and entertainment law and family law based on the educational and internship experiences she had prior to joining Huck Bouma. Before going to law school, Alissa earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Business (cum laude) from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and a Master of Arts in Music Management (high honors) from the University of Sheffield in Sheffield, England. She has been working as our law clerk since March 2016.
While in law school, she enjoyed classes in music law, entertainment law, trade secrets, and copyrights, and served as the President of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society. She had internships with a Judge for the Circuit Courts of Cook County, with the Chicago-Kent Family Law Clinic, with a child law attorney, and with the Office of the Public Guardian.
We believe that the depth of experience in representing franchise and business clients that Christine and Doris bring to the table and the fresh ideas and approach of a millennial generation attorney that we expect Alissa to bring will be a winning combination for both the firm and our clients.
Outside of the law, Alissa enjoys spending time with her fiancé Justin and their dog and two cats, reading, biking, attending fitness classes, and travelling.
