Litigation Attorney
Huck Bouma, PC, a leading western suburban Chicago law firm, has an immediate need at its Wheaton, Illinois location for a Litigation attorney to join its Litigation Department.
Huck Bouma, P.C. seeks an associate for its litigation department with 1-3 years experience.
- Essential Duties and Performance Responsibilities: work with partners in complex commercial litigation matters, including meeting with clients, drafting pleadings, taking and defending depositions, propounding and responding to discovery, conducting research, writing motions, making court appearances, arguing motions, participating in trials, interviewing witnesses, drafting agreements, negotiating settlements, attending mediations, assisting with trials and arbitrations.
Successful applicants will have:
Excellent communication and writing skills.
*Strong work ethic and reliability a must.
*Exemplary client service skills with prompt response levels.
*1-3 years of experience as a licensed attorney.
*Detail oriented with strong drafting and negotiating skills and the ability to communicate legal subject matter to non-attorneys.
*Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, legal judgment and strategic thinking.
*Ability to manage workflow independently to meet firm deadlines while achieving business and risk management objectives.
Must be licensed in Illinois, and admitted to practice in both state and federal court.
Salary commensurate with experience – range $100,000 – $120,000.

Job Description
- Desire to focus your practice in franchise law and corporate law.
- Ability to manage a base of existing franchise and business clients independently and responsibility in collaboration with the team.
- Strictly transactional and regulatory work.
- Franchisor representation includes franchise disclosure and registrations, drafting Franchise Agreements and related documents; franchise relationship issues: renewals, transfers, defaults and terminations; franchise law compliance (client counseling, training programs); response to government inquiries.
- Franchisee representation includes review of Franchise Disclosure Document and Franchise Agreement, counsel re same and negotiation of agreements for prospective franchisees; franchise agreement renewals and relationship issues with franchisor for existing franchisees; purchases and sales of franchise businesses.
Candidates should also possess a strong work ethic and have a desire for autonomy and significant client/matter responsibility.
Qualifications
- Must be admitted to practice in State of Illinois
- Must have transactional business/corporate law experience
- Franchise law experience preferred
- Willingness to devote time to franchise law training depending on level of franchise law experience
- Experience with and desire for direct client contact
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Detail oriented; excellent organizational skills
- High level of commitment to high quality work products and service to clients
